Was Neville Goddard a Christian?

People often ask, Was Neville Goddard a Christian? The answer depends entirely on what you mean by “Christian.”

Neville was devoted to the Bible. He read it constantly, quoted it in nearly every lecture, and built his entire teaching around it. But he was not a fan of traditional Christianity. In fact, he often spoke strongly against the rigid dogma, external worship, and fear-based doctrines that have long been attached to it. He believed they had stripped the Bible of its true power.

For Neville, the Bible wasn’t a book of history or rules—it was a psychological allegory, a symbolic blueprint of inner transformation. Jesus Christ, to him, was not a man to worship but the pattern of awakening within each person—the imagination itself, the divine “I AM.”

His interpretation stripped away the guilt and superstition and made the Bible accessible. Suddenly, Scripture wasn’t something to fear or submit to—it was something to live. And in that sense, Neville did what few have managed: he made the message of Christ deeply personal and profoundly empowering.

So was he a Christian? Not in the traditional sense. But if being Christian means honouring the Bible, seeking inner rebirth, and walking in the awareness of divine power within—then yes, completely.
