"Knit To The Soul of David"

In the unfolding drama of Saul, Jonathan, and David, we are not reading history—we are witnessing the movements of inner consciousness. Each figure represents a state of being: Saul as the egoic mind, Jonathan as the higher intuitive self, and David, whose name means beloved, as the inner embodiment of divine fulfilment.

Neville Goddard’s teachings allow us to decode this story not as outer fact, but as inner function—a guide to living from the end and manifesting our desires. And at the centre of it all is a giant.

Goliath: The Challenge of Limiting Belief

“And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath…”
1 Samuel 17:4

Goliath is the projection of your own doubts, fears, and limiting assumptions. He stands in defiance of your inner transformation, mocking the idea that you could live in your ideal state.

David refuses Saul’s armour—refuses outer methods—and confronts Goliath with spiritual assurance.

“You come to me with a sword… but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts…”
1 Samuel 17:45

This is the act of faith Neville speaks of: to assume the end boldly, knowing that imagination creates reality. David’s stone is your single, focused thought—hurled with confidence from the sling of inner conviction.

Jonathan: The Soul Recognises Divine Identity

“And it came to pass… the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.”
1 Samuel 18:1

The moment David defeats Goliath, Jonathan’s soul responds. This is the higher self recognising the divine within. Jonathan sees David’s courage, faith, and divine favour—and instantly aligns with him.

This moment is not admiration—it is union. The “knitting” of souls is the inner joining of your higher faculties with the “beloved” state—the end already fulfilled. Neville taught that you must feel yourself into the state desired, and Jonathan does exactly this.

The Name David: The Beloved State

David’s name (דָּוִד) means “beloved.” He is the symbolic fulfilment of God’s promise within you. When you dwell in the state of the wish fulfilled, you become David—the one in whom God delights.

“I have found David… a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.”
Acts 13:22

To knit your soul to David is to align emotionally, spiritually, and mentally with the divine ideal of yourself. You don’t try to become it—you declare it as your identity.

Saul: The Ego’s Resistance to Change

“And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.”
1 Samuel 18:9

Saul represents the dominant ego-state—the part of you that clings to what is, and resists what could be. It fears loss of control. It cannot accept that something greater (David) is emerging from within.

Saul’s jealousy mirrors how the ego fights against imagination. As Neville said, “Change your conception of yourself and you will automatically change the world in which you live.” But the ego does not surrender easily.

Jonathan: The Higher Self Aligning with Truth

“And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe… and gave it to David.”
1 Samuel 18:4

Jonathan’s actions are symbolic. He lays down egoic authority and inherited identity to support the beloved state. He chooses the promise over personal gain. In doing so, he lives from the end—before David wears a crown, Jonathan treats him as king.

This is the secret of manifestation: act as though your desire is already fulfilled. Support your inner David.

The Gift of Alignment

Jonathan’s name—Yehonatan, meaning “Yahweh has given”—shows he is the divine faculty in you that sees truth and moves toward it. His soul doesn’t reason—it recognises. It is the intuitive moment you feel peace with your desire and say, “This is mine.”

This is the sacred moment of soul knitting—when the inner self joins the fulfilled state and refuses to turn back.

Conclusion: Soul Knitting and the Fulfilled State

“Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4

The story of David, Goliath, Jonathan, and Saul is not about people—it is about process. The process of spiritual unfoldment, identity shift, and the death of limitation. When Goliath falls, the ego is shaken. But the higher self—Jonathan—knits itself to the state of victory.

If you would manifest your desire, you must do the same:

  • Let the Saul within you fall silent.

  • Slay the Goliath of doubt with the stone of faith.

  • And above all, knit your soul to the beloved—the fulfilled version of yourself already chosen by God.

“And the LORD was with David…”
1 Samuel 18:14

And so He is—with anyone who dares to believe the end is already true.
